Shani Watkins is entering her twenty‑ninth year in education, bringing extensive experience as a 9–12 classroom teacher, instructional facilitator, university program director, assistant CTE director, principal, technical center director, and currently the Director of Career and Technical Education for Puyallup School District in Puyallup, Washington. Her career reflects a deep commitment to expanding high‑quality learning opportunities for all students.
Shani holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting, a bachelor’s degree in business education, a master’s degree in education with a focus on Business and Marketing Education, and a master’s degree in educational leadership emphasizing organizational systems. She is certified in teaching, administration, and CTE administration. Her leadership has been recognized at the state, regional, and national levels, earning the Washington ACTE Administrator of the Year award, ACTE Region V Administrator of the Year award, and the national ACTE Administrator of the Year award. She has served in multiple elected leadership roles, including secretary, president‑elect, president, and past‑president of the Washington Association for Career and Technical Administrators and WA‑ACTE, as well as a three‑year term as ACTE Region V president.Throughout her career, Shani has prioritized differentiated instruction, equitable access, and instructional practices that support all students in achieving at high levels. Her professional interests center on the intersection of technology, learning, and neuroscience, particularly how evidence‑based strategies can help diverse learners thrive academically and personally.
